John Palmer’s Full Day Tour

Approx 165km 5-7hrs

Very few people visit Kerry without touring the Ring of Kerry, the renowned coastal drive. However I think there is a much more interesting drive that brings you to places not many people visit. Buckle up, here we go.

Leave Kenmare on the N70 heading in the direction of Sneem. At Blackwater Bridge turn right just before you cross the bridge. Drive along this lovely wooded road to the crossroads and turn left on the R568. After about 200mts turn right for Glencar/Ballaghbeama Pass. A truly majestic drive through the mountains. You cannot but stop for some photos but keep an eye on the watch as there is much more to see. At the end of the road turn left for Ballaghisheen Pass. After travelling some distance you will come to Killeenleagh Bridge, turn right for Cahersiveen where you come down a beautiful road with views of Dingle Bay. Heading south on the N70 turn right outside the town for Renard Point and the car ferry to Valentia Island. On the island you can walk to the summit of Bray Head and take in the breathtaking views of Dingle Bay, Blasket Islands, The Skellaigs, Kenmare Bay and Dursey to the south. Wow. Return to the “mainland” by the Portmagee Bridge and follow the Wild Atlantic Way South to Kenmare.

This will bring you to Ballinskellaigs, Derrynane House and its beautiful beach, the picturesque village of Sneem stopping for a well deserved G&T in The Boathouse at Dromquinna Manor overlooking the water. The perfect end to a perfect day.
