GILLES CARON at the PARK

We are honoured to present a special exhibition of photographic works by the legendary French photojournalist Gilles Caron, on display in our Library from July 24th until the end of September 2025.

This exclusive collection, drawn from our own holdings, features images captured in Northern Ireland in 1969—a pivotal moment in Caron’s career and in modern history. Best known for his powerful depictions of war and civil unrest, Gilles Caron brought a deeply human lens to moments of extraordinary tension and change.

Though his career was tragically short, Caron’s work shaped the future of photojournalism. Beyond conflict zones, he documented the cultural upheaval of the 1960s: the rise of cinema, France’s Nouvelle Vague, fashion, music, politics, and the vibrant energy of a generation in rebellion.

This exhibition marks the first time Caron’s work has been shown in Ireland, offering a rare opportunity to view these remarkable images in an intimate and reflective setting.
