Cycling Weekends in Kenmare

Cycling in Kerry and Cork offers some of the most idyllic and challenging routes in Europe. The Tri Cycle Weekends at Park Hotel Kenmare commencing on May 20th and Sept 9th 2011 bring you to the heart of the valleys, the tip of the peaks, and along breathtaking coastal roads. Tri Cycle Weekend Schedule

 

Friday sees the ride departing from the hotel at 2pm, for a 10km 262metre climb to Moll’s Gap. The air changes as you round the corner heading west to Sneem where you embrace the fast forest lined road to this picturesque town. Turning east you head back to Kenmare on the coast road and through the slow energy sapping Blackwater Hill. Covering 60km it is a ideal blend of accents and endurance to prepare for the following two days.

 

Day two is Saturday, and a 108km ride departs the hotel at 9am. With a slow gradual climb, 334metres to The Tunnels, a fast descent to Glengariff follows. Turning west the coastal road to Castletownbere offers head-on fresh sea breezes from Bantry Bay. The coastal towns of Eyeries, Allihies and Ardgroom, are mere glimpses of rural life, as you eat the miles on an enduring flat with a second accent of 240 metres back to Kenmare.

 

Day three, Sunday, brings you on a 77km round trip with steep ascents and fast descents through some of the most breathtaking countryside in Ireland. Returning to the first 10km of Friday's 262mts climb to Moll’s Gap you turn east and embark on the fast decent passing the Lakes of Killarney to Killarney Town. Taking the Ring of Kerry road, the route brings you to The Gap of Dunloe with its twisting road and steep climb to its 250metres summit. Make sure you conserve energy on this climb, there is another considerable ascent of 230metres to Moll’s Gap ! Finally, the route retraces the first leg, enduring a 10km fast downhill back to Kenmare.
